Portmore gas station worker charged over fraud freed after paying back money
One of four former workers at a gas station in Independence City, Portmore, St Catherine accused of stealing money from the sale of phone cards was freed on Thursday in the parish court after he made restitution.
Corey Carter, who was employed as senior cashier supervisor, was charged with larceny as a servant and unauthorised access to a computer facilitate a crime in connection with the theft of $212,000 from a phone card machine.
When the case was mentioned yesterday, the court was informed that Carter has repaid the money.
The complainant told the court that he wished not to continue with the matter in relation to Carter given that he got back his money.
Carter was then freed.
Meanwhile, the court heard that accused Cheveroll Osbourne of Garveymeade in Portmore made a repayment of $100,000 via his mother in court.
Presiding judge, Desiree Alleyne, told the accused that despite the payment, checks of his criminal record will have to be made before bail is considered.
He and fellow co-accused, Tyrique Austin and Morris Murrant, were further remanded for the case to be again be mentioned on May 13.
Allegations before the court are that between November 2023 and February this year the four, who worked as cashiers, converted money from the sale of phone credits for their personal gains.
Osbourne is accused of stealing $1,140,000, Austin $974,000 and Murrant $894,000.
They are charged with larceny as a servant and unauthorised access to computer facilitate a crime.
