Alexey Zaystev, the Russian man charged in the deaths of four Jamaicans arising from a crash in 2022, has returned to Jamaica in compliance with court orders, his lawyer has confirmed.

"He dutifully complied with all of the orders of the court," King's Counsel Peter Champagnie told The Gleaner on Monday morning.

"He came back as was prescribed. The passport is with the court and he's looking forward to his date in December."

Champagnie also said he has seen Zaystev in person.

On February 29, Supreme Court Justice Leighton Pusey granted a request by Zaystev to leave the island.

He gave him one month, from March 1, to return.

As April 1 was a public holiday, the judge set the return date for April 2.

The decision sparked public concerns about whether the judge was satisfied that Zaystev would comply.

Zaystev is to return to the Home Circuit Court on December 2, 2024.

He was charged last year with four counts of causing death by dangerous driving arising from the early morning crash on December 11, 2022 on the Palisadoes main road in Kingston.

He has been on bail since.

The crash claimed the lives of 57-year-old Rosemarie Roberts-Banton and her 18-year-old son Zachery Heslop, and 53-year-old taxi operator Delroy Grant and his wife Camille Stephenson-Grant.

All four persons were from Seaview Gardens in St Andrew.

Reports from the Harbour View police are that about 5:45 a.m., Grant was driving his Toyota Succeed motor car along the roadway when on reaching the vicinity of the roundabout, a collision occurred with a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser being driven by Zaystev.
