The Electoral Office of Jamaica is currently reviewing the position of Sharn Mangol as a returning officer with the agency.

Mangol, the former principal of Steer Town Academy in St Ann, who was removed from his post following a probe into a massive Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examination fraud at the school, has served as the returning officer for the constituency of St Ann East since 2022.

“Mr Mongal's position is currently under review following recent allegation made about him as published in the media,”  Director of Elections Glasspole Brown told The Gleaner

Mangol declined to comment when contacted by The Gleaner.

The school's exam coordinator, Andre Yeeshui, also stepped down from his role after Steer Town Academy's board voted last month to have both educators removed from the institution following a disciplinary hearing.

Another teacher, Travis Yeeshui, head of the science and hospitality department, as well as the grade 10 supervisor, who was also implicated in the cheating scandal, are to be demoted.

They were found guilty in a scheme which involved the leaking of examination papers to several students in the 2022 May to June sitting of CXC exams at the institution.

Their fates were decided by the board after the Overseas Examination Commission carried out an investigation amid a report of irregularities in the examination and recommended disciplinary action.
