JAMAICAN INSURANCE company, BCIC, has been recognised for its excellence in clear communication at the Center for Plain Language’s ClearMark Awards. The company’s Max Motor Policy clinched the top spot in the ‘Before and after – Print’ category.

The Center for Plain Language, a North American nonprofit organisation which celebrates advancements in clarity and understanding in written documents, announced the winners of its 14th annual ClearMark Awards on May 9.

BCIC also secured a top-three placement for its homeowner’s policy in the same category, the culmination of a competitive review process involving 99 entries from various organisations aiming to simplify their communication materials.

Claudette Green-Sinclair, policy development manager, who represented BCIC at the awards ceremony, said, “This prestigious honour is a testament to BCIC’s commitment to clear and transparent communication with its customers. The comments from the judges were particularly gratifying as they highlighted our work in addressing our customers’ needs in a clear and easy-to-follow way. They commended our process for testing and evaluation of the documents as ‘fantastic’ and noted that our motor policy speaks to users in a way they can understand.”

This win comes on the heels of BCIC’s achievement as the only insurer in the Caribbean to receive WriteMark certification for its home and motor policy booklets. WriteMark is an internationally recognised quality mark awarded to documents that prioritise clear and concise communication.

When asked for comment, Managing Director Peter Levy said, “At BCIC, we believe that plain language is essential for ensuring that our customers understand their insurance policy so they can make informed decisions. Our success at the ClearMark awards underscores the importance of clear communication in the insurance industry and highlights BCIC’s role in leading this charge on an international stage. We are committed to shattering the negative views customers have of insurance.”
