The Police High Command has ordered the detention of two policemen involved in Sunday's fatal shooting of three men on Windward Road in Kingston.

The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force says the order was given based on information received relating to the incident. The men are being detained while the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) continues its probe.

The CCU says the shooting incident involves two members from the Kingston East police division.

It says the policemen report that, while on patrol on Sunday morning, they encountered a group of men along Windward Road and during the encounter, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in the death of the three men.

One of the members sustained a non-life-threatening injury and two illegal firearms were reportedly recovered from the scene.

"The High Command reiterates its full support of members who act within the law in the execution of their duties and is committed to the principle of accountability.

"The High Command wishes to assure the public of our commitment to support thorough and impartial investigations carried out by INDECOM, ensuring that the ends of justice are served," the CCU states.
