NHT processes over 40,000 refund applications; 30,000 more to be paid by Jan 15

The National Housing Trust (NHT) says it has processed over 40,000 refund applications for contributors who made payments in 2017 or earlier. It expects to pay another 30,000 by next Wednesday.

In a social media post on Friday, the state home builder announced it had received more than 70,000 applications since January 1.

It also attributed the faster processing times to improvements in its systems.

It said refunds, which typically take 10-15 days, are now being handled more efficiently.

The NHT also said there are plans to upgrade its mobile app.

Problems with the app have frustrated thousands of contributors who tried to get their applications in early or apply for loan eligibility letters.

The NHT said customers can continue to apply for refunds via the NHT's official website at http://nht.gov.jm or http://online.nht.gov.jm.

Contributors were also reminded to take precautions against fraud by using only the official NHT portal, ignoring suspicious emails, and double-checking their applications to prevent delays.
