The St James police have charged a man following the seizure of an illegal gun during a mobile patrol along Fustic Road, Montego Bay, St James, on Monday.

Twenty-year-old deliveryman Matthew Willis, of Star Apple Boulevard, Catherine Hall, St James, is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

The Barnett Street police say about 9:30 p.m., the accused man saw the police service vehicle and started to act in a manner that aroused the suspicion of the police.

He was apprehended, and a brown bag he was carrying was searched.

The police say during the search, a Taurus G2C nine millimetre pistol with an empty magazine was found.

Willis arrested and subsequently charged.
