‘Duppy Maker’ remanded for murder of pastor in Old Harbour
Twenty-seven-year-old Lamar Myers, otherwise called ‘Duppy Maker’, who is charged for gunning down a pastor at his stall along West Street in Old Harbour, St Catherine was remanded when he appeared in the parish court on Friday.
Myers is charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.
Pastor Michael Spencer, 41, of Dolphin Terrace, Old Harbour Glades, St Catherine, was shot and killed on Saturday, January 18.
When the case was called up against Myers, the court was informed that the post-mortem report and statements are not yet filed.
Due to the case file being incomplete, he was remanded until February 11.
Reports from the Old Harbour police are that around 8:00 p.m. on the day in question, Spencer was at his stall when Myers, a construction worker of Burke Road in Old Harbour, approached him.
Myers allegedly brandished a firearm and opened fire, hitting Spencer in the head and upper body before fleeing on foot.
The police were summoned, and upon their arrival, Spencer was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was launched into the murder, and Myers was listed as wanted two days later.
He later turned himself in and was charged following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
