Man charged for murder of sister whose head was bashed in unfit to plead
Forty-one-year-old Jason Green, who is charged with the murder of his sister, has been ruled to be unfit to plead and should be kept at the court's pleasure.
The matter was being tried in the St Catherine Circuit Court before Justice Bertram Morrison.
Green is charged with the death of 56-year-old Nicola Ogilvie of White Waters Meadows in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Morrison heard medical evidence from three doctors who gave their diagnosis on Green's condition.
The matter was put to the jury for consideration and it was ruled the accused was not fit to plead.
The judge enquired of the jury if more time was required and the foreman told the judge that their decision was final.
It was decided by the court that the accused be held at a facility where he must receive psychiatric treatment.
During the trial, the court was told by the doctors that Green has mental illnesses.
He is said to suffer from bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental conditions.
It revealed in court that he is unable to give instructions to his lawyer, cannot understand basic communication, and that he couldn't be tried for the matter.
Allegations are that on the morning of July 19, 2023, Ogilvie was found dead on a bed at her home with her head bashed in.
An investigation was launched, which revealed that Ogilvie died as a result of a blunt force object being used to hit her on either side of the head.
It was also revealed that the brother and sister had a dispute.
Green was arrested and subsequently charged with murder and made numerous court appearances.
He was represented by attorney-at-law Steven Jackson.
