Jamaican long jumper Tajay Gayle set a new meet record of 8.34m to win the men’s long jump at the Gibson McCook Relays under way at the National Stadium.

Gayle erased the old mark of 7.95m set in 2015 by Nicholas Gordon with his final jump after six rounds of competition.

Shawn-D Thompson finished second with an effort of 7.88m while Aubrey Allen rounded off the podium positions with his best effort of 7.69m.

Gayle’s effort is the second best performance in the world this season, just behind Italy’s Mattia Furlani’s world lead of 8.37.
