Force Executive Officer, Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), Brigadier Markland Lloyd, and Deputy Managing Director, National Training and Programmes Division, HEART/NSTA Trust, Dr Cheryl McLaughlin, pose with the first 50 students who will participate in the Jamaica National Service Corps Skills Track for Workforce Development programme in front of a newly built computer lab where some of their lessons will be delivered. The programme was launched at JDF Headquarters, Up Park Camp in St Andrew on February 24, 2025.

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the HEART/NSTA Trust, the country's main skills training agency, have launched a pilot programme aimed at equipping young people with technical skills and professional discipline to enhance their employability.

The Skills Training for Workforce Development initiative, executed through the Jamaica National Service Corps’ (JNSC) Skills Track for Workforce Development, started on Monday, at JDF Headquarters, Up Park Camp.

Fifty participants, aged 18 to 23, are expected to undergo eight months of training—four months of structured learning at the JNSC followed by a four-month internship. Of the trainees, 24 will specialize in business administration, while 26 will pursue electrical installation.

The JNSC training will take place in two phases. The first, a personal development camp, will last four weeks and focus on discipline, life skills, and personal growth. The second phase will deliver specialized workforce training, conducted by JDF and HEART/NSTA Trust personnel.

The JNSC, established in 2017, continues to support unattached youth through both military and skills training tracks, preparing them for meaningful employment or service in the JDF.
