Employee at Spanish Town bill payment company charged for pocketing millions
An employee at a bill payment establishment in Spanish Town, St Catherine has been charged for allegedly cancelling payments and pocketing customers' money.
According to the police, investigations revealed that $3,371,285 was misappropriated.
Charged with larceny as a servant is 21-year-old Takoder Beckford of Sligoville, St Catherine, who the police say confessed to the crime.
Allegations are that between August 2024 and January 2025, Beckford used his security code to void bill payments to various service providers and take the money for himself.
The police say a concerned customer inquired about her bill payment not reflecting, which led to the disconnection of her service.
It was then that Beckford's alleged actions were discovered, and according to the police, he later confessed.
Beckford was arrested and subsequently charged following a question-and-answer interview.
His court date has not yet been determined.
