“The people have spoken" was the prevailing sentiment among Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters at a welcome party for Delroy Williams, the party's standard-bearer for the Clarendon Central constituency.

A vibrant crowd of bell-tolling, dancing labourites gathered along Stork Street, at a section fondly known as 'Belmont Road', to show their support for Williams.

"The people have spoken. Delroy 'Fedda' Williams, our Moses, has come to lead the people to the Promised Land," declared Nadine Outar-Johnson, who spoke to journalists at the event.

Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mike Henry, has held the seat since 1980.

Gary Douglas, a supporter and member of the constituency executive, told journalists that the spirit of the labourites had waned in recent years but credited Williams with reigniting enthusiasm among the people.

The event was briefly disrupted when members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force arrived on location.

However, after some discussions, the music promptly resumed, much to the delight of the supporters.
