Caribbean Airlines has returned to Montego Bay, resuming flights after a hiatus of nearly five years.

The airline, which suspended operations to the tourism capital just before the Covid-19 pandemic, is now back with a stronger presence, offering daily flights to both Montego Bay and Kingston from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The decision to return was primarily driven by customer demand, with numerous travellers and Jamaican staff advocating for the reinstatement of the route.

According to the airline’s chief executive officer, Garvin Medera, the airline received substantial feedback from passengers who relied on its services, not only for travel convenience but also as a vital connection to Kingston.

"We promised back then that we would return, and now we’re back stronger than before," he told The Gleaner during a ceremony at the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport this morning.

"We’re now flying seven days a week from Fort Lauderdale into Montego Bay and Kingston, ensuring that our customers have more flexibility and options for their travel needs," he said.

The airline says its initial load factors since resuming service have been promising, with strong interest from travellers eager to experience the brand’s offerings once again. "We are seeing positive trends, and the excitement from our customers is evident. People are looking forward to the service and connections we provide," the representative added.

When asked what sets Caribbean Airlines apart from other airlines operating between Montego Bay and Fort Lauderdale, the spokesperson highlighted the company’s deep-rooted connection to Jamaica. "Caribbean Airlines is a jointly owned airline with strong ties to Jamaica, and we are committed to serving this market in a way that reflects our heritage and dedication to excellence."
