An unidentified man was shot and killed after he allegedly engaged a police party in an armed confrontation in Portmore, St Catherine, on Monday night.

About 7 p.m., police personnel were reportedly conducting an operation in Crusher Lane, Old Braeton, Portmore, when they were reportedly fired upon by the man.

The police reportedly took evasive action and the man was shot and injured.

The police say they seized a Taurus G2 nine millimetre pistol affixed with a magazine containing five rounds.

He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
