NMIA to conduct emergency exercise simulation Thursday
The operator of the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston is advising that a full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise simulation will be conducted at the airport on Thursday.
The exercise will take place between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The operator, PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), says it will simulate an aircraft incident on airport property to test the Emergency Response and Management System of the NMIA and its emergency response partners.
“These exercises are crucial to ensure our team and emergency response partners are fully prepared to handle any potential incidents. By regularly testing our emergency protocols, we maintain the highest safety standards for all passengers and workers at Norman Manley International Airport,” said Theresa Benjamin, Director of Operations at PACKAL.
“The simulation will involve multiple emergency response agencies working together as they would during an actual emergency and will help us to identify strengths and any areas for improvement in our current emergency protocols,” she continued.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution as there will be increased emergency vehicle traffic on airport grounds and major roadways leading to and from the NMIA as part of this simulated emergency scenario.
Airport users and the surrounding community are also encouraged to remain calm and continue their normal activities while the simulation is in progress.
