JCF, HEART launch capacity-building courses
In a bid to enhance professional development within Jamaica’s security forces, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Area 5 Division, in collaboration with HEART/NSTA Trust, officially launched its Capacity Building Educational, Social, and Professional Transformation courses on Monday.
The initiative aims to equip participants – including police officers, members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the Department of Corrections, and other professionals – with essential skills for career growth and advancement.
The programme offers Level 3 courses in Supervisory Management and Public Speaking, as well as Level 4 courses in Human Resource Management, leading to Diplomas and Associate Degrees.
Detective Inspector Pilmar Powell, co-host of the programme, highlighted the significance of training in fostering national development.
“Training and development in organisations are crucial for employees’ growth, improved performance, and overall organisational success,” Powell stated.
She emphasised that the initiative focuses on both immediate skills enhancement and long-term career development, ensuring participants achieve improved work performance, attitudes, and aptitudes. Powell also urged divisional commanders and CEOs to actively support the programme.
Wayne Battiste, Parish Manager for St Catherine HEART/NSTA Trust, described the programme as a strategic response to global economic transformations.
“With our partners, we are delivering world-class training and sustaining high educational standards at an international level,” Battiste said.
He further noted that the certifications earned through the programme are recognised in over 70 countries, with ongoing efforts to expand their global acceptance and value.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Christopher Phillips officially declared the initiative open, encouraging participants to embrace the JCF’s ‘High Five’ core values – trust, innovation, motivation, resilience, and partnership.
“You must continue to operate with trust, innovation, motivation, resilience, and partnership,” Phillips stated, reminding participants to uphold these principles throughout their training.
He also emphasised that their success in the programme aligns with the vision of Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake and the JCF High Command.
With strong endorsements from JCF leadership and HEART/NSTA Trust, this initiative is set to equip officers with the necessary tools for personal and professional advancement, contributing to both individual career success and national development.
