Trelawny police warn against illegal sand mining

The Trelawny police have come out against the illegal sand mining in Stewart Town.

It is reported that mining activities have been observed along the Dornoch River, which falls within a no-mining zone in the Cockpit Country.

"We became aware of the activity, issued a stop order, and began investigating," said Superintendent Winston Milton, head of the Trelawny police, in an interview with The Gleaner.

When contacted, National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) CEO Leonard Francis stated that he was not aware of any licence being issued for mining in the area.
