Barnett Street lock-up escapee fatally shot by police in operation to capture him
Daniel McIntosh, who was among men who escaped from the Barnett Street Police Station lock-up in St James last December, was on Tuesday fatally shot by the police during an operation to capture him.
According to the police, a loaded AK47 rifle with the serial number erased was seized from McIntosh.
The incident happened in Mazeland in Cambridge in the parish.
The police report that around 3:30 a.m. on April 1, cops, armed with a search warrant, went to a premises in the area to search for suspects who escaped from the lock-up on December 14, 2024 and other wanted men.
On arrival of the police, the team knock on the door, shouted police and heard movements inside the house, the police reported.
According to the police, the cop breached the door and saw McIntosh with a gun, which he reportedly pointed at them.
They say the police took evasive action and fired at him.
After the shooting subsided, McIntosh was found clutching an AK47 rifle with a magazine containing four 7.62mm ammunition with gunshot wounds to his upper body.
He was transported to Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators from St James as well as the Independent Commission of Investigations are conducting separate probes into the matter.
