KSAMC meeting erupts into chaos over resolution on Kingston and St Andrew water supply
The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) meeting on Tuesday erupted into chaos as Councillor for the Trafalgar division, Jesse James Clarke, raised a resolution calling for potable water in Kingston and St Andrew.
Councillor of the Lawrence Tavern division, John Myers, during a point of order, labelled Clarke’s presentation as "political".
He stormed out of the meeting claiming the motion was being brought in a bid to bring down the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government, of which he is a part.
“Shame on you” jeers came from the People's National Party (PNP) caucus of the KSAMC as the long-standing councillor walked out of the meeting, insisting he would not sit and listen.
The JLP last month called for the resignation of James Clarke, the PNP's deputy spokesman on health and wellness, accusing him of recklessness, spreading misinformation and making false and dangerous comments about the country’s water supply.
James Clarke alleged recently that water being distributed for domestic consumption to some residents of Kingston and St Andrew contained faecal matter.
The National Water Commission rejected the claim that its water supply in Kingston and St Andrew was unsafe for consumption, declaring that its operations meet the highest safety and quality standards.
