Security threat halts proceedings at St Catherine Parish Court
Proceedings at the St Catherine Parish Court in Spanish Town were aborted today as a result of a security threat.
Sentencing and other matters in the court were put off for other dates, with detainees hurried back to lock-up in various sections of the parish.
Fire personnel and the police's Bomb Squad have been deployed to the White Church Street facilities.
The St Catherine Municipal Corporation's offices were also evacuated with staff seen standing in Emancipation Square.
Meanwhile, a number of litigators have expressed concern over the frequency of threats on the justice system.
On December 5 last year, operations at the St Catherine Parish Court and the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court were disrupted in a similar fashion.
Activities at the St Catherine Parish Court were also disrupted due to a bomb threat in July last year.
