Fatal police shooting in Old Harbour, St Catherine
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal police shooting of a man during an alleged confrontation early Friday morning on Smith Avenue in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
The deceased has been identified as Oshane Rowe, also known as 'Daddy 1' and 'Gov', who resided in the community.
Reports are that around 4:50 a.m., police personnel assigned to the Old Harbour Police Station conducted an operation on Smith Avenue.
The team entered a property and reportedly knocked on the door of a house.
According to the police, they received no response and proceeded to forcibly enter the premises.
Upon entry, Rowe was allegedly seen holding a firearm.
He reportedly moved to a bedroom and pointed the weapon in the direction of the cops.
The police said they took evasive action and fired at Rowe.
A search of the house was conducted, and Rowe was found on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds, reportedly still clutching a pistol.
He was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
