Soldier arrested in Suriname after body of man found in parked vehicle

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, CMC – Police in Suriname say a 36-year-old soldier has been arrested as they investigate the death of a man, whose body was found in a vehicle with a gunshot wound earlier this month.

The Police Public Relations said that the matter had been investigated by the Capital Crimes department, in collaboration with the Paramaribo Investigation Assistance Team and the intelligence service of the Suriname Police Force.

It said that the soldier, who is attached to the National Security Directorate, has been arrested and after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, was transferred to the Military Police as the investigation continues by a joint team of the police and the Military Police.

The police said that an autopsy will be conducted on the body of the man to determine the cause of his death.

The man’s body was found in the vehicle on June 2.
