Government Senator Abka Fitz-Henley says Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby should provide Jamaicans with answers regarding the use of public resources by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) instead of threatening action against media houses.

Fitz-Henley was responding to Swaby's accusation that he was seeking to mislead the public that the municipality's efforts to recover outstanding advertising fees from media entities could be seen as an attempt to influence their coverage of critical matters.

The government senator said that since Swaby has now made himself available to comment on aspects of the issue raised concerning the scandal, Swaby should also state whether taxpayers' money from the KSAMC has been funding the political campaign of People's National Party (PNP) politicians.

He also said Swaby should respond to reports that the KSAMC has been allocating resources to individuals only after checks are made and confirmation received that they are PNP supporters.

Senator Fitz-Henley said "Swaby should clear the air concerning the use of public resources by the KSAMC and not attempt to deflect by making public demands of media houses and threatening strong action."

He added that "it is unfortunate that the KSAMC has been plunged into a corruption scandal since Mayor Swaby took over the reins and Swaby should do the honourable thing and resign."

The Jamaica Labour Party has been calling for the resignations of Swaby and Dr Dayton Campbell, the general secretary of the PNP.

The governing party has accused Swaby and Campbell of wrongdoing in the distribution of resources at the municipal corporation, allegations both men have rejected.

Nationwide News has reported that the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, MOCA, is investigating the matter.
