A man who was wanted in connection with the seizure of 14 illegal firearms in Kingston has been captured and charged by detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID).

Julian McLeish, a 37-year-old phone technician from Dunrobin Acres, Kingston 8, was arrested on Saturday during a police operation at a premises in Waterlane, Clarendon.

Several other individuals were also taken into custody. However, their identities are being withheld pending further investigations, the police said in a statement on Wednesday.

McLeish was charged on Tuesday with multiple firearm-related offences, including:

• 13 counts of Possession of Prohibited Weapon

• Dealing in Prohibited Weapons

• Stockpiling Prohibited Weapons

• Conspiracy to Traffic

• Deal in and Stockpiling Prohibited Weapons

His arrest follows an operation carried out by FNID on May 28, at a premises on Deeside Avenue, Kingston 10, during which 14 firearms, 12 magazines, and more than 50 rounds of ammunition were seized around.

Another man, 38-year-old Lamar Douglas, otherwise called ‘Joe’, of Patrick City in St Andrew, who was out on bail in connection with another case, was arrested during the operation. He was charged on Wednesday, June 4.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says McLeish’s capture and charge mark a significant breakthrough in the ongoing probe.

“The JCF is committed to finding guns wherever they are and arresting those involved in the illicit gun trade,” the force said in a release.

So far this year, police have seized 741 firearms, representing approximately 90 per cent of the total recovered in 2024.

The public is encouraged to report illegal weapons or narcotics to the FNID at 876-923-6184, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
