Firefighters tackling blaze in McCook’s Pen
Firefighters are now battling a large brushfire in McCook’s Pen, St Catherine.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) confirmed that the blaze has largely been contained, despite the challenges caused by the prevailing dry and windy conditions.
“Two [fire] units are on the scene and they are coping well. But it’s windy so once we have to replenish the units’ water tanks you will have a little flare up again,” said a JFB official.
It is unclear when the blaze started and what sparked it, the JFB official told The Gleaner on Thursday, noting that an investigation is already under way to determine the cause.
The fire sent plumes of smoke billowing over adjacent communities as well as a section of Old Harbour Road.
