The lush grounds of Tryall Estate will spring to life on August 24 as Jamaica Sotheby’s International Realty and The Tryall Club present the second annual 5K Eco Run —an event that blends physical fitness, environmental stewardship, and community giving.

“This isn’t your typical road race,” said Julian Dixon, CEO of Jamaica Sotheby’s International Realty and chief organiser. “It’s off the beaten path — fresh air, fewer crowds, and a chance to truly connect with the cause you’re supporting.”

Speaking at the event’s launch last Wednesday evening at Pier One Restaurant in Montego Bay, St James, Dixon emphasised that the Eco Run is designed to stand apart. It will bring together business leaders, civic officials, entertainers, and environmental advocates in a shared mission.

“Tryall was the natural choice,” she said. “Sustainability is woven into everything they do. Proceeds will support children’s homes, education initiatives, animal welfare, and environmental projects. When people are educated, they learn how to care for the environment.”

Last year’s inaugural staging drew enthusiastic participation across all ages and backgrounds, laying the foundation for what organisers hope will become a signature annual event.

“This year, we’re building on that momentum,” Dixon added. “We’re expanding the race experience and deepening our message of purpose. It’s not just a run — it’s a movement.”

Montego Bay Mayor Richard Vernon welcomed the initiative, calling it a perfect fit for the city’s sustainability vision.

“We support all things green, and this event takes us into a unique terrain,” he said, referencing the scenic route through Tryall Estate. “It supports sediment rescue, marine life, education — everything that feeds into protecting our environment.”

Vernon also highlighted partnerships with Jamaica Energy Partners, Montego Bay Marine Park, and Recycling Partners of Jamaica, as evidence of the city’s eco-forward approach.

“We’re addressing issues upstream and supporting events like this to ensure their success,” he said. “Education, environmental care, and intergenerational responsibility must go hand-in-hand.”
