PNP Rally | Vaz urges PNP supporters not to become complacent despite lead in poll

Dwayne Vaz, the People's National Party's (PNP) candidate for Westmoreland Central, says that while the party may be ahead of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the latest RJRGLEANER-commissioned Don Anderson poll, his party will only solidify its victory if supporters go out to vote on September 3.

Vaz was speaking to The Gleaner today ahead of the PNP's mass rally at Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay, St James, where orange-clad supporters are currently gathered in anticipation of the party's series of addresses from its leadership this evening.

"That is what we are feeling on the ground, that we are ahead, but we also understand that the most important thing is to get our people out on the day. We are fine-tuning now to ensure that we achieve the desired result," said Vaz.

The latest RJRGLEANER-commissioned Don Anderson poll has indicated that 37.6 per cent of 1,010 respondents will vote for the PNP at the polls, compared to 34.5 per cent who will vote for the JLP, 23.1 per cent who are undecided, and 4.8 per cent who have said they will not vote.

Vaz said that while the number of PNP supporters at today's rally is significant, including up to 1,000 supporters from the Westmoreland Central constituency, the PNP must still be proactive in rallying its support base.

"We know we have more people than them (the JLP), so what we need to do is to get out our people to vote, and we know we are going to do that," said Vaz.
