Veteran educators Dr Darien Henry and Dr Maureen Mullings-Nelson are vying for the presidency of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA), a powerful union representing more than 20,000 teachers in Jamaica.

The week-long election will be held in June.

The winner will be installed as president-elect in August and will assume the presidency the following year, in keeping with the association’s governance structure.

A JTA report said three nominations were initially received for the post.

Henry is principal of Montego Bay Community College in St James.

Mullings-Nelson, is president of the Mico University College Staff Association and lecturer and training placement officer at The Mico University College in St Andrew. She was also a candidate in last year's race.

The JTA report also noted that the candidates were provided with, and later signed, the guidelines for the president-elect elections.
