Update | 17-y-o schoolboy charged with murder over deadly attack at Ocho Rios High
The 17-year-old Ocho Rios High schoolboy who was taken into custody following a deadly attack on a schoolmate has been charged with murder.
He is scheduled to appear before the St Ann Family Court on Wednesday, March 18.
The incident on Wednesday, March 4, resulted in the death of 16-year-old Devonie Shearer of Ocho Rios, St Ann.
Reports from the St Ann’s Bay police are that around 3:00 p.m., the 17-year-old struck Shearer on the head with a metal chair, causing a wound that rendered him unconscious.
The injured boy was taken to hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
The accused teen was handed over to the police later the same day and was formally charged on Thursday, March 5, in the presence of his parent.
According to police, eyewitness statements implicated him in the incident.
