Free toll for Hurricane Melissa relief activities to end on April 1
Persons and entities undertaking Hurricane Melissa relief activities in western Jamaica will no longer have free access to toll roads effective Wednesday, April 1.
Under the relief initiative, which started last November following the passage of the Category Five storm in October, vehicles transporting humanitarian aid and essential supplies are allowed free access to toll roads.
The hurricane caused widespread damage across western parishes.
In a media release, the authority said the toll relief facilitated improved access to social protection services, supported MSME recovery and operations, facilitated infrastructure redevelopment, and aided the gradual return to normalcy in several communities across the island.
It said the toll-free access is now set to come to an end.
“The Toll Authority expresses its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders and partners whose collaboration contributed to the success of this initiative and to Jamaica's ongoing recovery efforts.”
