Three arrested as JDF seizes massive cocaine shipment offshore Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is reporting that the Coast Guard on Saturday intercepted a go-fast boat offshore Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth and seized more than 2,500 kilogrammes of cocaine and detained three persons.
According to the JDF, the estimated street value of the cocaine is over J$1.3 billion.
In a media release, the army said the Coast Guard was conducting patrols along Jamaica’s coastline when a go-fast vessel was spotted near the Treasure Beach area, reportedly destined for mainland Jamaica.
The vessel was intercepted, boarded, and searched.
According to the JDF, a detailed search uncovered 99 packages of cocaine, weighing a total of 2,544.404 kilogrammes, 18 fuel drums, a go-fast vessel with outboard engines, and other paraphernalia.
Three persons were detained in connection with the seizure.
The JDF said both the seized items and the detainees were handed over to the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division.
The military added that the operation underscores its commitment to protecting Jamaica’s national borders against transnational organised crime.
