Edwin Allen’s Romario Finnigan delivered the standout performance on day one of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships, producing a massive personal best in the Boys’ Class One 100m.

On a night when 10.56 seconds was not enough to advance to the semifinals, Finnigan sped to 10.18 to lead all qualifiers.

The time marked a significant improvement for the sprinter, who entered Tuesday's first day of the 2026 championships with a personal best of 10.52.

His performance sets up a highly competitive semifinal round, where he will face Excelsior’s Malike Nugent (10.27) and Riquelme Reid (10.32), as well as Holland High’s Johan-Ramaldo Smythe, who clocked a personal best 10.24.

Other notable qualifiers include Kingston College’s Nyrone Wade (10.33) and Holmwood Technical’s Jaydon Collins (10.33).

The semifinals are scheduled for 6:06 p.m. tomorrow, with the final set for 8:54 p.m.

Finnigan has been drawn in semifinal one alongside Reid, Kingston College’s Kyle Bodden (10.37), and St George’s College’s Tyreece Foreman (10.33).

Douglas Dominates

Holland High’s Shanoya Douglas also delivered an impressive performance in the Girls’ Class One 100m, easing through her heat with authority.

Douglas powered through the opening 40 metres before easing off and cruising to victory in 11.85 seconds.

She remains the heavy favourite for the title, having recorded a personal best of 11.06 at the Carifta Trials earlier this month.
