The Little London Justice of the Peace (JP) Association has donated two 18-inch wall fans to the Little London Clinic in Westmoreland, in an effort to improve comfort for patients and staff.

Marva Davis-Clarke, principal of Broughton Primary School, who is also a member of the association, explained that the initiative came out of a simple observation during a visit to the facility.

“I really went to the clinic with a student and while I was sitting there, it was extremely hot,” she said. “So I noticed it and I asked them if they could do with a fan, and they said ‘yes’. So that’s how the idea really came about.”

She noted that the issue was initially a concern before the hurricane disrupted these plans, but the members later revisited it and followed through with the donation.

“The idea was formed before the hurricane, and then the hurricane kind of threw it off; and then we got back and decided on it,” Davis-Clarke explained.

The two 18-inch wall fans were subsequently purchased and presented to the clinic, with several justices of the peace in attendance.

“We, as the JP Association, we tried to see what we can do in our community and that was a need we saw there, so we donated two fans,” she said.

During the handover, members of the association also engaged with persons at the clinic.

“A few of them asked some questions of the ‘justice’, and we introduced ourselves so they can know the JPs who were there. So, in case they need their assistance, they would know who to go to,” she added.

Davis-Clarke also pointed out that the association received support from local business Chandon and Sons Supercentre in Little London, which offered a discount on the purchase of the fans after learning they were intended for donation to the clinic.

She emphasised that the group remains committed to serving the community and identifying needs where they can offer assistance.
