St Catherine man charged for machete attack granted $300,000 bail
A St Catherine man charged for attacking another with a machete, almost severing one of his hands, was today granted $300,000 bail with surety in the parish court.
Nathan Whyte, 23, a labourer of an Ewarton address, is answering to a charge of wounding with intent.
Parish Court Judge Venese Blackstock-Murray granted bail and ruled that Whyte has a case to answer.
The case was ordered transferred from the parish court to the circuit court.
Allegations are that on January 27, 2025, the complainant was walking along a pathway when he was chased by Whyte.
The complainant fell and was attacked by the accused with a machete, which saw him being chopped.
During the alleged attack, the man raised a hand to block the weapon, which saw the limb being almost severed.
He was subsequently taken to the Linstead Hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the Ewarton police, and an investigation was launched.
Whyte was arrested and subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session.
He is being represented by attorney-at-law Kemar Robinson.
