The Shipping Association of Jamaica’s (SAJ) recent workshop on Introduction to Logistics Management attracted such high interest that a second session was added. Originally scheduled for June 25 and 26, the intensive online programme, held in collaboration with the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), offered an additional session on July 10 and 11.

The overwhelming demand stresses the growing importance of logistics expertise within the maritime industry and the desire for continuous personnel development by businesses. The fully subscribed workshops attracted participation from over 30 companies across eight Caribbean nations, with representatives spanning the maritime spectrum. Logistics firms, shipping agents and brokers, port authorities, other shipping associations, and terminal operators were all represented, highlighting the diverse range of professionals seeking to add to their skillsets.

Participants gained valuable knowledge and practical skills in key areas like transportation, inventory management, warehousing, and distribution. The workshop examined practicalities, equipping participants with a deeper understanding of essential logistics concepts, including logistics terminology, supply chain planning, and risk management. Upon completion, all participants received a certificate from the CMU.

The success of the SAJ’s workshop series emphasises the increasing demand for qualified logistics professionals and the need for the association’s training and development interventions which move the region’s maritime sector forward, and ensure a workforce equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for continued growth and success.
