Elegance and style for The Diamond Mile
Despite the heavy rains and traffic to match, members of the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC), Supreme Ventures, the racing community and specially invited guests were not going to miss the launch of Jamaica's finest race day: the Diamond Mile. Dressed in racing apparel, hostesses greeted guests as they arrived at the Audi auditorium on Oxford Road last Thursday.
Executive director of the BGLC Vitus Evans gave brief welcoming remarks, congratulating David McConnell and Ann-Dawn Young Sang on their new appointment as chairman and president and CEO of Supreme Ventures, respectively. He also made note of the progress of the Diamond Mile in the previous two years.
third time's the charm
President and CEO of Supreme Ventures Ann-Dawn Young Sang then took to the podium to express his company's delight at being the event's White Diamond sponsor for the third year, but how could they resist her, with it being as she describes it "the most prestigious racing event on the calendar in Jamaica". She believes that events like these will return Jamaica's horse racing to its former glory as it will bring out a wider cross-section of patrons, while attracting more sponsors.
The launch was not all business as when you are talking about the Diamond Mile, there has to be fashion. Designers Keneea Linton-George and Dexter Huxtable of Spokes Apparel showcased some specially designed pieces for the daytime formal event fabulous dresses with chic fascinators for the women, and well-tailored suits and blazers for the men.
The event, to be held next Saturday, December 2, promises to be one for the books a day of fun, racing, fine food, and style.
