KEY BISCAYNE (AP):
A resurgent Venus Williams defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 7-6 (1) yesterday to reach the Miami Open quarter-finals.
Seeded 16th, Williams is a three-time Key Biscayne champion, but her most recent title here came in 2001. She's into the quarter-finals at the tournament for the first time since 2012.
Williams could meet her sister Serena in the final. Serena, who has won the tournament a record seven times, defeated 2006 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 6-3.
Venus Williams swung with her typical aggressiveness from the baseline, hitting 40 winners to nine for her fourth-seeded opponent. Williams also won 14 points at the net.
She improved to 7-0 against Wozniacki and is 4-0 this year against top-10 opponents.
