Birmingham Diamond League: Lane draw hinders Facey in 200m, Forbes falls short in long jump
BIRMINGHAM, England:
A disappointed Simone Facey came home sixth in the 200m in Birmingham.
Facey, who once broke Veronica Campbell's national junior record in the 200m, clocked 22.92 seconds.
Facey told The Gleaner: “It was just a bad lane draw for me. I had no idea how I ended up in lane two.”
“But I am still grateful that I was able to come out and compete.”
Meanwhile, long jumper Damar Forbes was never in contention during the long jump today.
He finished sixth with a best leap of 8.06m.
The 25-year-old was always up against it with Olympic champion, Briton Greg Rutherford, in the field.
Rutherford took the honours with a season’s best 8.35m with American Michael Hartfield (8.23m) and Dan Bramble (8.17m) taking the minor places.
Forbes opened up with a jump of 7.74m in Birmingham but was unable to get anywhere close to his personal best of 8.25m.
With a season’s best of 8.17m, Forbes - who competed in the long jump event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea - will be looking to raise him game with the Beijing World Championships in August.
