Slack fails to finish grueling heptathlon, Britain's Ennis-Hill wins gold

Jamaica’s female heptathlete Salcia Slack failed to complete the event as she did not face the starters in the seventh and final discipline, the 800m.

The 25-year-old came into the final day of competition in 28th position on 4,720 points out of 33 competitors.

Britain’s Jessica Ennis-Hill took the gold medal after amassing a season best 6669 points.

The silver was won by Canada’s Brianne Eaton (6554) with Latvia’s Laura Ikauniece-Admidina taking the bronze with a new national record tally of 6516 points.
