Calabar withdraw from Gibson McCook Relays
Track and field fans will have to wait for the finals of the Digicel Series at the G.C. Foster Classics on March 10 or the ISSA Boys and Girls' Championships two weeks later to see the Calabar High's record breaking 4x400 metres quartet in action as the Red Hills Road-team has pulled out of Saturday's Gibson McCook Relays.
There were rumours over the past two weeks that they would not be entering the meet as they were upset that Kingston College did not send a team to the Wint McKenley meet which was held at Calabar.
Late Friday night head coach, Michael Clarke, confirmed that his team will not participate in the Gibson McCook Relays.
"Yes, we will not be competing," said Clarke. He, however, dismissed the rumours about the team pulling out due to an issue with Kingston College.
"Rubbish! It has been several weeks of intense competition which has taken a toll on most of our athletes, especially among the senior ones and we decided that they needed some time to recuperate because the Gibson McCook Relays would have been another intense one for them," Clarke said.
The main organisers of the Gibson McCook Relays are Kingston College Old Boys.
