#GLNRChamps: 'I have been working towards Commonwealth Games' - Russell
Calabar’s star hurdler Dejour Russell has confirmed that he will be competing at next month’s Commonwealth Games, which will be held on Australia’s Gold Coast from April 4-15.
Russell, who is the reigning IAAF World Under-18 champion, told The Gleaner that he has been preparing himself to compete at his first senior championships for Jamaica.
“I am definitely going to the Commonwealth Games, because this is something that I have been working towards all season,” said Russell.
The powerfully built hurdler made the disclosure shortly after breaking his Class One 110m hurdles record in the final at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium.
Russell won the event in 13.10 seconds, erasing his previous mark of 13.21 seconds, which he set last year.
The 17-year-old Russell was fourth in the 110 metre hurdles at both the 2016 World Under 20 Championships and the 2017 National Senior Championships.
