#CARIFTAGames: Injured Watson fails to advance to 400m final
IAAF World Under 18 champion Antonio Watson, has failed to advance to the final of the Boy's Under 20 400 metre final at the CARIFTA Games now under way in The Bahamas because of an injury.
Watson, of Petersfield High School, running in heat 11, was replacing the injured Anthony Carpenter who had to pull out of the event at the last minute.
However, Jamaica recorded creditable performances on the opening session of the 47th CARIFTA Games with seven of eight athletes advancing to the 400 metre finals slated for later today.
Dashawn Morris won heat 1 in 46.89 seconds to be the fastest qualifier going into the finals.
In the Boy's Under 17 400m, Raheim Scott 48.52 and Malachi Johnson 49.24 seconds, finished second and third in their heats respective heats to advance to the finals.
Garrell Whyte was the fastest qualifier in the girl's under 17 category as the Hydel High athlete clocked 54.33 seconds to win her heat.
Team mate, Daniel Deer clocked 54.80 seconds for third in her heat to move forward.
Both Charokee Young and Janiel Josephs, who replaced Shian Salmon are through in the Girl's Under 20 event.
Young won her heat in 53.92 seconds while it was 53.64 seconds for second-place Josephs.
The Bahamas', Daneisha Anderson is the fastest qualifier after winning her heat in 52.86 seconds.
