Cavalier’s Speid says 1-1 draw was missed opportunity
Technical director of the Cavalier football team, Rudolph Speid, says his team missed a great opportunity to reclaim the lead at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) standings following their 1-1 draw with UWI FC in the Monday night game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Cavalier went in front after 36 minutes when Chevone Marsh scored, but Courtney Allen cancelled his effort out four minutes later with a spectacular acrobatic strike. However, Cavalier, who have the same number of points (45) as second-placed Waterhouse, trail leaders Portmore by two and would have returned to the summit, on goal difference, if they had taken all three points.
But Speid believes they have a great chance to redeem themselves when they face the defending champions and league leaders in their next game on Sunday. With the form his team has been showing over the last two months, Speid is confident of taking all three points in that encounter.
“It [the draw with UWI] was a missed opportunity by us to regain the lead. I thought we got enough opportunities throughout the game, but UWI FC played well. They were the team for January as they got the most points during the month. We may have beaten some bigger teams, but they are really hot right now, and in the end, it was a fair result,” he said.
Cavalier face Portmore and Waterhouse in their next two fixtures, and Speid believes this will be a decisive run of games.
“Those are going to be tough games. We are aware how hard these games will be, but if we do well, we will be near the top, and if we don’t, we could fall out of the race for the top prize. But the way we are playing, we believe we can compete with anybody,” he said.
