National champion Janieve Russell is through to the Women's 400m hurdles semi-finals at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday night (Jamaica time).
Russell clocked 54.81 seconds to finish second behind Ukraine's Anna Ryzhykova (54.56s), while Paulien Couckuyt clocked a Belgian record of 54.90s for third.
Jamaica's Leah Nugent, however, was disqualified from her heat for a lane violation while her compatriot Ronda Whyte was put out of her heat after a false start.
World record holder Sydney McLaughlin (54.65s) of the USA and her compatriot Dalilah Muhammad (53.97s) are the other medal hopefuls to qualify.
