Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown’s third-round technical knockout (TKO) win over Mexican Mario Juarez in a heavyweight fight on Thursday in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, was his second win in as many professional fights and the Jamaican is pleased with his progress in the professional ranks.

For the first two rounds, the big Jamaican hammered the Mexican who failed to come out for the third round of the four-round contest, giving Brown a TKO knockout win.

Brown admitted he didn’t want to go the full four rounds because Juarez is known as a fighter who likes to go the distance in his fights and he wanted to show his undoubted superiority.

“It was a very good fight and a fight that I enjoyed. This fighter can fight. He has a whole lot of experience. He is really good and always goes the distance in his fights.

“I didn’t want to go to the distance, so I pulled out all the heavy punches and once I got him, I knew it was done.

“But he was not easy to knock out as I wanted to go to the body but he has a very strong body. He was taking my body shots very easy and so I went head hunting instead because I felt I would get more there and that worked out,” he explained.

CAUGHT OFF-GUARD

Brown said the power of his punches caught his opponent off-guard and after a dominant second round, he knew it was going to be hard for the Mexican to complete the fight.

“I relaxed and boxed at first and then when I saw the opening in the second round, I took it. I caught him with some hard punches and I knew he wasn’t going to cope with all those hits, and was likely to stop soon. When I caught him with an overhand right, I knew I got him then because he was wobbling and could barely stand. So I went at him but the bell came and saved him.

“After he went into his corner, he was saying no more, he is not coming back and the fight was done.

After two knockouts in two pro fights, Brown believes he is getting the recognition he desires and will be looking to continue the winning start to his career when he fights again on May 28.

“A lot of boxers were at the fight last night (Thursday) and they saw how strong I am and they are not too eager to fight. They were all watching and not everyone wants to get into the ring with me.

“I have another fight coming in May. I do not have an opponent now. We had one but he backed out and we are looking for a new opponent for the May date.

“But I see myself as a good pro coming through and with more training and hard work, I will continue to win fights and make progress,” the 2021 Olympian added.
