Jamaica win most medals but the USA top medal table
Jamaica won the most medals but finished behind the United States of America (USA) on the medal table of the World Under-20 Championships, which ended at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia on Saturday.
The island’s athletes ended the championships with 16 medals, one more than the USA, who had more gold than Jamaica. The USA won seven gold with Jamaica gaining six.
Jamaica, however, had seven silver medals to the USA’s four, with the latter having four bronze to Jamaica’s three.
Jamaica led the medal table until the final two events – the women’s and men’s 4x400 metres – which were won by the USA. This allowed the USA to surge to the top.
Jamaica's gold medals were won by Brandon Patterson in the men’s high jump, Jaydon Hibbert in the men’s triple jump, Tina Clayton in the women’s 100 metres, Brianna Lyston in the women’s 200 metres, Kerrica Hill in the women’s 100 metres hurdles and the women’s 4x100 metres team.
Clayton and Hill won two gold medals as apart from their individual titles, they were members of the winning 4x100 metres team.
Like Jamaica, Ethiopia finished the championships with six gold medals to place third on the medal table.
Ethiopia, however, had five silver and one bronze for an overall medal tally of 12.
