THE WORLD Cup in Qatar is over and while the winner is in no doubt, for days to come there will be debates over which players were the best and in what positions.

The Sports Desk at The Gleaner is no different, and after fighting for days on end over what the World Cup team of the tournament should look like, we decided to simply make our different selections public and ask you to decide.

The only things we have agreed on is the presence of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé and that we will never agree on anything else. We have decided to go with a 4-3-3 formation.

Let us know what you think.

Livingston Scott

Livingston has gone against the grain in a number of ways. He has decided to use the Argentine right back Nahuel Molina and their centre-half Christian Romero. In addition, he has gone with Ángel Di María in midfield and Julián Álvarez alongside Messi and Mbappé.

Daniel Wheeler

Daniel is a little more conventional in going for Antoine Griezmann in midfield but includes central midfielder Sofiyan Amrabat at the expense of Luka Modrić. A surprise inclusion may also be Argentina and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Alexis MacAllister.

Orane Buchanan

Orane is not a believer in France’s Theo Hernández and has gone instead for Moroccan left back Noussair Mazraoui. He does, however, include the Croatian maestro in Modric, has agreed with the inclusion of Álvarez with Messi and Mbappé. Orane is also the only person on the sports desk to go with Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livaković.

Paul-Andre Walker

You would have noticed there is no byline on the compilation of this list. This is just so I could say my Sports Editor is completely insane. For him, there is no place for Modric, or is there a place for the front three everyody else has agreed on. Instead, he has gone for Brazil’s Vinicius Jr and has moved Mbappé into a centre forward position with Messi playing down his right side. Interestingly, Messi and goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez are the only Argentines in his team.
