#Carifta2023 | Smith-Band strikes gold, Dunkley, East mine silver, bronze in half-lap events

Jamaica's Malique Smith-Band secured the country's lone gold medal in the 200 metres as the 50th Carifta Games continued from Nassau, Bahamas this afternoon.

Smith-Band won the under-20 boys title in 20.69 seconds, leading a Jamaica one -two with Javourne Dunkley, grabbing silver in 20.88. Adam Musgrove of the Bahamas was third in 20.96

The under-20 girls title was won by Trinidad and Tobago's Sanaa Frederick in 23.60 with British Virgin Island's Kenyatta Grate, second in 24.11, and Amari Pratt of the Bahamas, third in 24.17.

Sabrina Dockery false started to thwart her medal hopes.

In the under-17 girls, Natrece East grabbed bronze in 23.85, behind St Lucia's Naomi London, silver in 23.72, and Jamiah Nabbie of the Bahamas, who completed the sprint double in 23.67.

The Bahamas completed a sweep of the under-17 category as Cayden Smith took the boys title in 21.70. Grenada's Ethan Sam was second in 21.96 and Smith's teammate, Andrew Brown, was third in 22.03.

Jamaica’s Dontae Watson finished fourth in 22.07, while teammate Donte Mendez sixth in 22.27.
