Rajindra Campbell breaks national Shot Put record
National shot put champion Rajindra Campbell carved himself a place in Jamaican history, breaking the national record and confirming a place at the World Championships in Budapest next month.
Campbell won the Men's Shot Put in 22.22m at the Meeting de Madrid in Spain today, breaking the six-year national record that was held by Odayne Richards (21.96) in 2017.
Campbell's previous personal best was 21.31, which he set in May
Campbell, who won his first national title on July 9, becomes the first Jamaican to throw 22m and in the process booked his place at the World Championships, surpassing the automatic qualifying standard of 21.40.
It is also tied for the 22nd-best throw of all time.
